News» 7 dead in Manila Islamic Center drug raid


Seven suspected drug peddlers and users, including a barangay captain, were killed in an anti-drug operation conducted by police at the Manila Islamic Center Friday.

According to initial reports from DZMM's Dennis Datu, the Manila Police District (MPD) and its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, and officers from the NCR Police Office (NCRPO) converged in San Miguel and Quiapo in Manila near the Manila Islamic Centre in Carlos Palanca Street to carry out arrest warrants against those suspected to be involved in the illegal drug trade, which also include local government officials.

Police said aside from suspects in the Islamic Center, they also apprehended persons of interest riding in two jeeps, who are set to undergo background checks before being released...

In July, over 600 suspected drug users and dealers in Tondo, Manilasurrenderedto authorities and pledged to change their ways. Convicted drug personalities who testified at the House Committee on Justice mentioned that Muslim communities in Manila were involved in the illegal drug trade.

In September, policearrestedalleged drug offenders in several anti-drug operations in the Salam compound of Barangay Culiat. Local officials and Muslim tribal leaders worked with law enforcers to find and identify the suspects.
